Automated External Defibrillator (AED Device)
When you car battery dies, you need jumper cables. When your heart stops, you need an automated external defibrillator (AED). It's that simple. The AED device is a critical part of the cardiac chain of survival.
It is the only tool that can save someone in cardiac arrest. After determining that a student's heart isn't beating properly, the AED will deliver a shock and get the heart back into its normal rhythm.
How much does an AED cost? They start around $1,300. They are easy to use because they are automated - turn it on and a voice provides instruction. The device will also decide if the student needs a shock. In other words, don't worry about electrocuting your friend.
Simon's Heart promotes the availability of AEDs in schools, community centers and sports clubs through its crowdfunding website, GotAED. It also donates AEDs through its awareness campaigns, the Sudden Death Shootout, Chain of Survival Relay and AED Madness. Click here to see our AED recipients.
