WASHINGTON — There are rare but tragic stories of student athletes collapsing from sudden cardiac arrest. On Tuesday, the Washington Commanders donated 12 AEDs to DC Public Schools, and trained student athletes on how to use the devices and how to properly perform CPR.
“What’s been happening around the NFL, and in our communities is we’re seeing this issue come up and in a lot of situations they don’t know how to solve them,” said Dan Levy, the Director of Youth Football for the Washington Commanders. “We’re hopeful that this training and these pieces of equipment will be able to solve those problems.”
Football players and cheerleaders at Coolidge High School were taught how to perform CPR, and how to use the AEDs, or automated external defibrillators, the devices that can shock a heart that’s in cardiac arrest.
