Student Complains of Chest Pains, Dies

I just got finished posting an article about a study suggesting that children complaining of chest pains is not a cause for alarm.

ALLENDALE — A 21-year-old Grand Valley State University student died Tuesday after complaining of chest pains while playing basketball with friends, according to the university.  The student, who was not identified, was in the Allendale campus Fieldhouse’s recreation center when he took a break because of the pains, the university said.  While resting around 7 p.m., he fainted; the Fieldhouse’s staff called an ambulance and began administering CPR, according to the university.

Emergency personnel unsuccessfully tried using a defibrillator in the center. Life EMS paramedics also attempted “advanced resuscitation,” but could not revive the student.  Authorities summoned the Ottawa County medical examiner, who concluded the student probably died of natural causes, according to the university.  The medical examiner still will perform an autopsy, the university said.
