This is not new news, but I am always disappointed that it is not discussed by the SIDS advocates. According to a study, Long QT Syndrome could be responsible for up to 10 – 15 percent of SIDS deaths. However, we never hear this statistic. We hear about sleeping on the back, using a pacifier, sleeping on hard surfaces, not sleeping with your baby. I’m not sure that any of these factors are more likely to contribute to SIDS.
Why aren’t we talking more about real conditions? Simon died when he was 3 months old. I was never comfortable with the SIDS diagnosis. It seemed like a copout. We believed that there had to be more . . . it turns out that there was.
