DALLAS — A former Texas Tech first baseman and golfer collapsed and died just after crossing the finish line of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in Dallas.
CPR failed to revive Mark Austry after he collapsed shortly after 10 a.m Sunday. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Baylor University Medical Center.
The 32-year-old former Red Raiders athlete from Lantana, Texas, was one of more than 13,000 runners participating in the 13.1-mile run to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Fort Worth, Texas, native lettered at Tech from 1998 to 2000 after transferring from Coastal Carolina.
