Athlete Health Organization Screening – 800

This is one of our favorite events of the year for several reasons.  First, we are just one station of many that examine high school students.  The students receive care from orthopedists, neurologists, internists and pulmonologists.  Second, we have doctors from all of the major hospitals participating in our cardiac section.  Third, we have representatives from almost all of the ECG and Echo companies that donate their equipment and time.  It is a true community and collaborative effort.

This year, we screened about 800 kids; five of whom discovered potentially fatal heart conditions.  Four of these conditions were Wolff-Parkinson White Syndrome, an arrhythmia, that can cause a child to drop dead suddenly during exertion.
