Every coach in the world has a playbook. Every school in the world, is prepared for a fire. However, when it comes to sudden cardiac arrest, the #1 cause of death of student athletes, we are completely unprepared.

What’s the first thing you do when a student collapses? Who makes the phone call? Does anyone know CPR? Is there an AED device? Who’s going to get it?

It is best to figure out the answers to these questions before the student collapses in the hallway or on the field. That is the purpose of a cardiac emergency response plan. It’s your playbook and practice manual rolled into one.
